Real people, checked by a real process
Fake profiles and catfishing are the most common complaint about dating apps. MuteMate uses a short live face check to confirm that the person behind a profile is real and looks like their photos — and deletes the images once the check is done.
How the face check works

A short live scan
The app opens your camera and asks you to follow a few quick prompts, such as turning your head or blinking. That shows it is a live person, not a photo held up to the camera.

Compared with your profile photos
The scan is compared with the photos on your profile to confirm they show the same person.

Verified — or reviewed by a person
A clear result verifies your profile straight away. If the automated check cannot be sure, a member of our team reviews it and you are notified of the decision.
Who has to verify
Women’s profiles are shown to other members only after the face check is passed. This is the most effective way we have found to keep fake female profiles — the classic scam on dating apps — out of the feed. Men can verify too, and a verified profile carries a badge.
What happens to your images
Our Privacy Policy explains how biometric data is handled under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
- The scan is processed by Amazon Rekognition in its India (Mumbai) region.
- A clear scan stores no selfie images at all.
- If a scan goes to review, the images are kept privately for the reviewer and deleted as soon as a decision is made.
- If a review is never completed, the images are deleted automatically after 30 days.
- The check is never shown on your profile other than as a verified badge.
Reporting and blocking
You can report or block anyone from their profile or from a chat. A report takes effect for you immediately: the person disappears from your feed and any chat between you closes. Our moderators review reports, and repeated reports from different members lead to an account being suspended.
When you report a photo from a chat, a private copy is kept for the moderators so they can see what was sent.
Safety tips for meeting someone
- Keep the conversation in the app until you trust the person.
- Do not share your address, workplace or financial details early on.
- Meet for the first time somewhere public, and tell a friend where you are going.
- Never send money to someone you met on a dating app.
- If something feels wrong, report it — you do not need to be certain.

Is the face check shown on my profile?
Only as a verified badge. Your scan images are never shown to other members.
What if the face check fails?
If the automated check is unsure, a person on our team reviews it. You can also try again later if the scan could not detect your face clearly.
Does MuteMate keep my selfie?
Not after the check. A clear scan stores no images, and images sent for review are deleted once a decision is made, or after 30 days if no decision is made.
What happens when I report someone?
They are removed from your feed and any chat between you closes immediately. A moderator then reviews the report.
