A bio people want to reply to
A good bio does one job: it gives the right person an easy way to start a conversation. It does not need to be long or clever. It needs to sound like you.
Specific beats impressive
“I love travelling and food” describes almost everyone. “Four years in Bengaluru and still looking for the best dosa” tells people who you are and gives them something to say. Pick one or two real details and let them do the work.
Leave a door open
End with something easy to answer: a question, a small opinion people will want to argue with, or a plan you would like company for. The easier the first message is to write, the more first messages you get.
What to leave out
- A list of what you do not want. It reads as bitter, even when it is fair.
- Your employer, college, housing society or anything that identifies you to someone who knows you.
- Your phone number, email address or social media handles.
- Anything you would not be comfortable with a colleague reading.
Photos do half the talking
- Make the first photo a clear, recent picture of your face.
- Add one photo that shows something you enjoy.
- Skip group photos where nobody can tell which person is you.
- Go easy on filters — people notice when you meet.
Writing your Thirst on MuteMate
On MuteMate your bio is called your Thirst: a short intro of up to 250 characters. You can also record it as a voice note, and pick Temptations — interests that show how much you have in common with someone.
A Thirst is checked for phone numbers, email addresses, links and social media handles, and the app blocks the ones it recognises — though a cleverly disguised number can still slip through. That keeps most early conversations inside the app, where blocking and reporting still work, and keeps your own number off your profile by accident.

How long should a dating bio be?
Two or three sentences is plenty. On MuteMate, your Thirst can be up to 250 characters.
Why can’t I add my Instagram to my bio?
MuteMate does not allow contact details or social handles in a Thirst. Sharing them early links your dating profile to your real identity, and it is how many scams move people off the app.
Which language should I write my bio in?
Whichever language you would actually talk in. A bio that sounds like you works better than a polished one that does not.
